Botox Side Effects and How to Treat Them

You’ve finally decided to go ahead and have Botox injections to get rid of those frown lines and wrinkles. You have been looking forward to your younger look with no wrinkles for some time and the treatment went well with very little discomfort, but now you have a headache and a droopy eyelid. What’s going on here? Nothing really bad, so calm down.

Botox injections do sometimes leave you with these kinds of side effects, but they don’t last very long and are nothing to worry about.  In case you’ve forgotten, your cosmetic surgeon will have told you what some of the side effects of Botox injections are. The best thing you can do while waiting for them to clear up is rest and relax.  If the headache is very bad, take a painkiller that is not a blood thinner, or do what the surgeon told you to do before the procedure.

Sometimes if you are feeling stressed out or even just a bit nervous about having a new procedure, you tend to forget what care instructions you were given.  Use icy cold water to dampen a washer and let it rest over your face while you listen to relaxing music in a cool spot, not in full sunlight. That is a good way to deal with a headache. Sometimes if you rest and doze a little the headache will miraculously disappear.

The droopy eyelid shouldn’t last too long either. This only happens because some of the Botox went into the muscle used for eyelid movement.  That muscle has been temporarily blocked from receiving the message from your brain to open your eye properly.  The Botox will gradually wear off that part of the muscle and your eyelid will return to normal.

Rather than being horrified, be happy to know the Botox is actually working and once the swelling goes down you’ll see it in the reduction of the crows feet lines around your eyes. No matter how minor any procedure is, it can have an effect on the body. Even having a splinter pulled out makes you feel unwell for a moment or two, until it stops hurting.

Botox is a bit like that, only instead of having something pulled out, you’re having something put into the muscle that is causing those frown lines.  Your body will soon adjust to this and you’ll be able to resume your normal activities and feel wonderful. Better still, you’ll also look wonderful – much younger without those lines etched into your face.

So even though there may be a few side effects, don’t let that put you off having Botox injections if you are convinced they will improve your looks. While we know that looking younger won’t change your personality, it can certainly make you a happier person when you know you look your best.
